5 freckled Scottish beauties

Pixar’s newest film, Brave, has just swept into cinemas. This time it focuses on an actual group of people rather than anthropomorphic creatures – although even this depiction is somewhat unrealistic. The protagonist is the very essence of a Scottish stereotype, complete with accent, red hair and, last but not least, freckles.

Few Scottish women actually share the distinctive look presented here. But there are a number of freckled Scottish beauties that carry it off just as well as Princess Merida. Here are five of the hottest ones…

Isla Fisher

Although she has never lived in Scotland, and actually grew up in Perth, Western Australia, there’s no doubt where this Wedding Crashers actress gets her look. Both of her parents were Scottish ─ from Bathgate and Stranraer.

Her freckles have got her a long way, from acting in plays to Home and Away and finally to Hollywood. They also attracted the eye of British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, who married Isla in 2010. If you’re looking to find love with freckled women, or women from Scotland, visit this page.

Julianne Moore

Although born in North Carolina, Julianne’s mother was from Scotland. In fact, she applied for dual citizenship following the death of her mother in 2011, stating that it ‘would have meant the world to her.’ Her stunning freckles have met renowned fame through blockbusters such as The Hours, The Big Lebowski and Magnolia, among many others.

Rose Leslie

This freckled actress is not as far into her career as Isla may be, but made a memorable debut on to our television screens with her portrayal of Gwen in Downton Abbey. She has since starred in Game of Thrones. Born in Aberdeen, she studied to be an actress at LAMDA.

Sonita Henry

Born to a Scottish father and a Nepalese mother, Sonita has a very memorable look ─ a key part of it being the collection of freckles on her nose. She is most famous for her appearance in Star Trek, but also appeared alongside Bruce Willis in The Fifth Element.

Karen Gillan

Born in Inverness, Karen is a true Scot and probably the most unashamedly freckly celebrity in our line-up. She moved down to London at the age of 18 to go to drama school, but actually ended up becoming a model before her acting career began. She is best known for playing Amy Pond in Doctor Who.

From modelling to starring in Hollywood blockbusters, these Scottish women really do owe a lot to their freckles and distinctive looks.
